Implementation of programs

The Wyss Academy’s projects contributed to the implementation of seven different programs following the 2021 Planning for Impact exercise, which was based on optimistic and ambitious assumptions. An overall implementation of 40 % reflects pandemic-related continued lockdowns in the countries of operation and delays in recruiting the innovation teams. The institutional program, where most projects were initiated from HQ, could be implemented at above 80 %.

Each project was allocated to one or more areas where the intended impact was expected to unfold. Looking at the summary of those areas of impact, the projects of the Wyss Academy realized 80 % of the efforts planned to establish an enabling context for the work of the various units. Only 40 % of the foreseen budget could be implemented to fulfil the aim of demonstrating innovations in the four different fields, while a similar ratio was achieved in order to prepare for impact.

Despite more than tripling the workforce during the second year of the ramp-up phase, our ambitious plans of fully staffing the Wyss Academy team in 2021 could not be achieved. In order to fully unfold the potential of a balanced team, a role-based, networked organization was built up, which is flat in hierarchies, adaptive in response, and bridges the internal silos of competencies and skills.
